"Since Boerne's Main Street is a TxDOT highway, it will close on a very limited basis." That line is from the Holidays in Boerne FAQ, and it explains the whole holiday calendar.
Downtown Boerne hosts events on three straight weekends this year, run by three different hosts. Only two events in that stretch are built around a closed road: Dickens on Main and the Weihnachts Parade. Everything else happens on sidewalks, inside shops and on Main Plaza.
Three weekends, two closures
| Weekend | Dates | Main events | Host | Main Street |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| One | Fri.–Sat., Nov. 27–28 | Dickens on Main, tree lighting | City of Boerne / Visit Boerne | Closed both festival days in 2025 |
| Two | Fri.–Sat., Dec. 4–5 | Wassail Walk, Stocking Stroll, Weihnachts Parade | BR&ROA, Hill Country Mile, Boerne Parks & Recreation | Closed parade Saturday in 2025 |
| Three | Fri.–Sun., Dec. 11–13 | Kinder Fest, Christmas Market Days | BR&ROA, Events Off Main | No closure in 2025 |
Visit Boerne posted the dates and the order of the three weekends in its Oct. 23, 2026 announcement. The closure column follows the pattern from 2025. Last year, Main Street closed for Dickens and again for the parade, and the city said no other holiday closures were planned, according to My Boerne News. Closure hours for 2026 haven't been posted yet, so check the organizers' pages the week of each event.
Weekend one is the only event designed to fill the road
Dickens on Main runs Friday and Saturday, Nov. 27 and 28, over Thanksgiving weekend. It's spread across four holiday villages along the Hill Country Mile. No other holiday event in Boerne fills the street itself. The festival brings fake snow along Main Street, ice sculpting shows, live music and theater, free kids' crafts, food trucks and vendors spread through the event, and street performers working Main Street.
North Pole Village at Main Plaza is the center of the festival. The season starts there Friday with carolers, Castle Brass and the snowy tree lighting at the gazebo at 6 p.m. sharp. The Greater San Antonio Academy of Ballet brings back its custom version of the Nutcracker on the North Pole stage each afternoon of the festival, after it was the highlight of last season. The 22-foot ice slide is back too, set up behind North Pole's main stage this year. That's a change from 2025, when the Boerne Star put the slide at Dickens Village.
The other three village names and locations for 2026 haven't been announced yet. Here's how they were set up in 2025:
- North Pole Village: Main Plaza, 100 N. Main. Concert stage, Nutcracker scenes and ice carving.
- Tiny Tim Village: East San Antonio Avenue. Trackless train, Santa visits, children's crafts, inflatables and games.
- Dickens Village: The parking lot at 157 S. Main. Boerne Community Theatre plus dance, cheer and taekwondo performances.
- South Pole Village: Around the Hamby's parking lot at 437 S. Main. Children's activities, face painting, food and drinks, a cigar bar and a trackless train.
That 2025 layout stretched from Main Plaza down to 437 S. Main, which is why the festival needs the street closed. The City says shops along the Hill Country Mile open as early as 10 a.m. The festival's entertainment and Santa visits build later in the day and run into the night. Tour Texas lists the festival as free, from noon to 10 p.m. at 100 N. Main. The official Dickens on Main page hasn't posted a full 2026 schedule yet. Check it before you lock in your plans.
What a closure day looked like last year
The road closure shapes the day for anyone who parks or lives along the route. Here's how it worked in 2025, in order:
- Early afternoon: move your car. The FAQ said vehicles left on Main Street between River Road and Blanco Road after 2 p.m. could be towed at the owner's expense. The Boerne Star gave 2:30 p.m. as the Dickens deadline, so the earlier time is the safer one.
- 3 p.m.: intersections close. The Boerne Star reported that the Hill Country Mile itself was closed from 4 to 10 p.m. both nights of Dickens.
- Parking. The Visitors Center, City Hall and Patrick Heath Public Library lots were first come, first served, along with nearby street parking.
- Getting around downtown. On parade day, traffic coming from north of downtown was detoured via Adler Road and Plant Street to Blanco Road, according to My Boerne News.
The holidaysinboerne.com FAQ still shows Nov. 28–29 and Dec. 6, the same dates My Boerne News gave for the 2025 events, so watch for the 2026 version before relying on it. If you live on the far side of Main from where you're headed, that Adler Road and Plant Street detour is the route to remember. The other nights of the season don't need one.
Weekend two helps pay for weekend one
The second closure comes the next Saturday. The 39th annual Weihnachts Parade starts at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5, and the organizers expect nearly 100 floats on Main Street. The City's announcement puts the number at more than 100 lighted floats and says shops will stay open late along the parade route.
The rest of the weekend happens off the street. On Friday, Dec. 4, the Boerne Retail & Restaurant Owners Association hosts the Wassail Walk and Caroling Contest along the Hill Country Mile, with caroling from 4 to 8 p.m. The 2026 list of participating stops hasn't been posted. Last year's list included The Shoppes at 222 at 222 S. Main, The Boerne Bookshop at 153 S. Main, The Christmas Shoppe at 132 S. Main, Tre Pizzeria at 103 N. Main and Lost Oak Cellars at 111 Rosewood.
The Stocking Stroll ties the first two weekends together. It runs Friday and Saturday, Dec. 4 and 5, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and one ticket covers either day or both. Ticket holders collect a gift from each participating business they visit. It's a joint project of the Hill Country Mile, Boerne Parks & Recreation and the BR&ROA, and the Stocking Stroll page says the proceeds sponsor Dickens on Main. So shopping on the second weekend helps fund the festival on the first weekend. Last year's participants included The Flower Shop at 827 N. Main, Nature's Presence at 807 N. Main and Handmade on Main at 347 N. Main. Tickets are limited, and the Weihnachts Weekend page says they go on sale Nov. 5 through the Boerne Parks & Recreation portal.
Weekend three doesn't close the street
Kinder Fest and Christmas Market Days, Dec. 11–13, need no closure at all. The City calls it the more relaxed weekend of the season. Everything happens on sidewalks, inside shops, on Main Plaza and at one venue off Main:
- Kinder Fest Cookie Crawl. Hosted by the BR&ROA. Tickets are $30 and good for either Friday, Dec. 11 or Saturday, Dec. 12, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sales open Wednesday, Nov. 11 at 9 a.m.
- Santa Scavenger Hunt. Free, Dec. 11 and 12, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at participating downtown shops. The drop-off spot for completed passports hasn't been announced.
- Christmas Market Days. Free, at Main Plaza, 100 N. Main. Saturday, Dec. 12, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 13, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Run by Events Off Main.
- Ice carving at The Shoppes at 222. Saturday, Dec. 12, at 222 S. Main. The listing says you can watch the carving from 2 p.m., and it gives 5:30 p.m. as the event time.
- Christmas Card Workshop. Saturday, Dec. 12, 10 a.m. to noon, in the Cibolo Nature Center Auditorium at 140 City Park Road. It costs $30 per family and is capped at 20 families, according to The Boerne Life.
Because the road stays open, Saturday, Dec. 12 can be planned around times instead of tow deadlines. The card workshop runs until noon. Market Days on Main Plaza runs until 5. The carving at The Shoppes at 222 can be watched from 2 p.m., and the event there is at 5:30.
The ticket deadlines come before any of the events. Stocking Stroll tickets go on sale Nov. 5, and Cookie Crawl tickets go on sale at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11. Both dates are more than two weeks before the Dickens tree lighting.
If you're deciding how close to the Hill Country Mile you want to live, the closure days and the tow deadlines that come with them are part of that decision.
